BIO
Obong Mgr. Obonete S. Ubam MA, is a Czech-Nigerian entrepreneur, lawyer, bestselling author, mentor and a motivational speaker. He was born to a Czech mother and a Nigerian father, who married during their studies in Kiev, former USSR. The couple were forced by the regime to divorce, after a few years of being exposed to tremendous pressure from the communist authorities.
At the age of fifteen Obonete visited his father, who became a police general, in Nigeria for the first time in his life. There he met his father´s family and also attended a Cadet School.
After his return to Czechoslovakia he continued his studies at a Grammar school, State Language School and the Arts School, during which he was selected to represent his country in basketball at the first World Scholar-Athlete Games in New Port, USA.
After graduation, he became an entrepreneur in gastronomy and importation for a few years and after that he enlisted to the military, being the first Afro-Czech to serve in the Army of the Czech Republic. He graduated from the Military Academy in Vyškov and was assigned to the Ministry of Defense as an interpreter to the Cabinet of the Minister and later as an advisor to the Chief Inspector of the Human Rights Observation of the Army of the Czech Republic.
After terminating his military career he became a co-founder and the first chairman of the League of Ethnic Minorities of the Czech Republic and he conducted several nationwide media campaigns against racism and other similar projects. He went on to study Czech and international law, acquiring several degrees from various universities.
After graduating he worked as General Director and a member of the Board of Nejlépe Plc. and further on he occupied similar managerial posts in other companies too. In 2005 he co-founded the Czech-Nigerian Business Alliance and became its Chairman, focusing mainly on developing business relationships between the two countries.
After a sudden demise of his father he relocated to Nigeria and under some dramatic circumstances took over control of the family estate and businesses, supporting the education of his seven young siblings. He founded the consortium AkpaUbam Group (comprising of Akpaubam Estate, Akpaubam Ventures, Akpaubam Oil, Akpaubam Motels and Akpaubam Stores Management) and got into the local politics. For his contribution to the local tribe of Annang he was awarded a royal title of „Obong Emem“.
Having spent seven years in Nigeria he relocated to southern Spain where he started a real estate business.
He is the author of a bestselling autobiographic novel and a bestselling audio book “Sedm let v Africe“, published in 2019. His other publications are ''Kalangu - Africká moudrost na každý den'' (2020), ''Náš černobílý svět'' (2021) and ''Seven Years In Africa'' (2022).
Presently he is devoted to mentoring and motivational speaking.
He speaks fluently Czech, English and Spanish and communicates also in French and Russian.

Autobiographic thriller „Seven Years in Africa“, is a real life story of an Afro-Czech man, born in a small Czechoslovak mountain town, who after the demise of his father, a powerful Nigerian general and a traditional king, gives up his own life, career and love in Prague and sets on an adventurous journey to the rough heart of West Africa. There he struggles to succeed to the throne and fights against the enemies of the family, to protect both his orphaned siblings and the legacy of his father´s. His stay in one of the most dangerous countries in the world, stretches out to long seven years, during which he often faces life danger, overcomes tropical diseases and some hard to imagine obstacles, only to fulfill the mission of his life, find his own identity and his femme fatale. At the end of his adventure he becomes the first Czech to be crowned a traditional king in Nigeria.
